Port Levy House Update April 2017
Early autumn called for a trip across Banks Peninsula to the site of the Port Levy House, situated on rural block with views out to the local Harbour and on a clear day distant views Kaikoura and the Southern Alps.
The client’s brief for a secluded rural cottage was simply to be off the grid and sustainable. From this we developed a design with a series of raised platforms, rooms and decks, perched above a wild meadow. Visual inspiration for the design has been taken from the farming vernacular, with repetitive roof forms also acknowledging the shape of the hillsides on both sides of the valley.
The modular structure lends itself to prefabrication, and with the land situated on a large rural block positioned between two ridges on Banks Peninsula, has make for ease of delivery.
Due for completion in September 2017, the Port Levy House promises to be a roomy, relaxing space away from it all.
