From NZIA Architecture Awards text: This is a delightful addition to an historic stone cottage in a landscape of drama and contrast. The addition provides a contrast and foil to the existing buildings on site but does so in a manner that accentuates the qualities of the old and the new. The use of layering and texture in the new building endows the property with visual richness. the kitchen/dining space that has been created provides a flexible family-friendly environment. It also relates well to the clients' needs and capitalises on the unique setting. This addition is bold and different but nonetheless achieves a sense of composure and harmony.
